Joys and Concerns

Choral Introit: I Come with Joy                          Brian Wren

Call to Worship

One: I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved and free,

All: the life of Jesus to recall, in love laid down for me.

One: The Spirit of the risen Christ, unseen but ever near

All: is in such friendship better known, alive among us here.

One: Together met, together bound by all that God has done,

All: we’ll go with joy to give the world the love that makes us one.

Opening Prayer (in unison)

God who loves freedom, we give thanks for this country and for the freedoms we enjoy. May we never take for them for granted, as they have been gained at great cost. Bless the souls and the families of those who have given their lives so that we might have life, liberty and the chance to pursue happiness. Through Jesus, we have seen the example of your self-sacrificing love. May that love fill our hearts, our relationships, and all we do. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Almighty God, you have raised Jesus from death to life, and crowned him Lord of all. We confess that we have not always bowed before him, or acknowledged his rule in our lives. We have gone along with the ways of the world, and failed to give him glory. Forgive us and raise us from sin, that we may be your faithful people, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, who rules the world and is head of the church, his body. Hear us now as we turn to you with our silent confessions, seeking your mercy, forgiveness and grace.

Moment of silent prayer

Thank you for loving us so tenderly. Thank you for challenging us to know better and to receive you more fully. It is in Christ’s name that we pray. Amen.
