From the Green Team
3 June 2020
“…Heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to Yhwh your God, the earth with all that is in it.” Deuteronomy 10:14
You know how when you learn a new word, suddenly it seems as if everyone is using it?
I thought about the 3R’s of the Green movement: reduce, reuse, recycle. Then I was inspired to add two more: renew and rejoice. For me, these two words imbue my commitment to the environmental movement with a spiritual aspect.
Below are some of the thoughts which occurred to me about each word and an action I can take now:
- Renew my commitment to stewardship of creation.
Action: Read Spiritual Ecology: Cry of the Earth, edited by Llewellyn Vaughan. - Reduce my use of disposables.
Action: Buy a travel coffee mug (and use it) - Reuse – become aware of how I can reuse items instead of recycling them.
Action: Reuse small juice bottles by buying larger jugs of juice and refilling the small ones. That way, I toss only one bottle instead of 4 or 5. - Recycle, to convert waste into reusable material
Action: If I can’t find a recycle bin when I am out and about, I will bring items home to my recycle bin. - Rejoice “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 118:24
Action: I am just happy that more and more of us are waking to the glory of creation, and joining together to heal our environmental mistakes.
I invite/ask each of you to let stewardship be the new word you notice this week. Please feel free to send me ideas and comments you have about the 3R’s +2. Can you think of more R’s? More ways to Renew, Reduce, Recycle, Renew, and Rejoice?
Send them to me [email protected].
REMEMBER! The Green Team welcomes you to participate at any level!
Blessings,
Theresa Carroll
