Call to Worship

One: Sing praises to God, O you saints of God. Give thanks to God’s holy name.

All:   We praise God for the joyous gift of a new day.

One: Our hope is in God who made heaven and earth.

All: We gather to remember all that God has revealed. We come to discover what God is doing among us.

One: So open your hearts to the joy of this time of worship.

All:   It is right to praise God and sing of God’s glory.

One: Come, let us worship God together!

Prayer of Invocation (in unison)

Gracious God, you who spoke to us in ancient times through the law and the prophets, and who visited us in Jesus Christ, come now and make your presence known. In song and prayer and word and silence, touch us and renew our spirits that we may once again come into your rejoice in your love and joy. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (in unison)  (from Lavon Baylor)

Good Shepherd, we have wandered down the strange pathways of our world. We have ventured into dead-end streets that looked more inviting than the narrow ways marked out by the signposts of your love. We have trusted other voices and turned away from your truth.  We have accepted your gifts without acknowledgment. We have failed to use our overflowing cups to fill the cups of sisters and brothers who need what we could offer. Forgive us, we pray, and restore us to your fold. Hear now our silent confessions as we turn to you, seeking your mercy, forgiveness and grace. Amen.
