Joys and Concerns | Silent Prayer
Introit: #203 Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us With Your Love CHEREPONI
Call to Worship
One: Come, let us celebrate the One who calls us to love and speak truth to power:
By God’s grace, we will speak the truth of grace.
We are called to love and defend our brothers and sisters who suffer in silence:
By God’s grace, we will sing the truth of justice.
We will rise up and cry out for dignity:
By God’s grace, we will pray the truth of hope.
Come, let us celebrate together the power to love and to speak the truth:
We are ready to worship our God who is still speaking! No one can stop us now!
Unison Prayer of Invocation
Spirit of the living God, fall fresh upon us; allow your presence to fill us with power from on high. Come, Holy One, and dwell among us. We need your authority to love our neighbor and speak to the powers of this world. Give us a special anointing to stand and be witnesses in our homes, our schools, and on our jobs. Come into this place and make us one with each other. It is in your name we pray. Amen.
✠ Hymn: #707 Take Thou Our Minds, Dear Lord HALL
Call to Confession
Unison Prayer of Confession
Righteous God, we confess our easy compliance with the ways of the world. We have accepted advantages for ourselves that are unavailable to many. We have not consistently called oppressors to account, nor recognized our own oppressive ways. We have even passed by many who suffer, as if their suffering were no concern of ours. Our practice of the faith gives neither challenge nor inspiration. Redeem us, O God!
Moment of Silent Prayer
Assurance of God’s Love
✠ Gloria: #583 GLORIA (Taizé)
Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!
Glory to God, glory to God, alleluia, alleluia!
Responsive Psalter: Psalm 82
One: God presides in the divine council;
And gives reproach in the midst of all the powers:
Many: “How long will you judge unjustly,
and show partiality to the dominant?
“Give justice to the weak and the orphan;
Maintain the lives and secure the futures
of the lowly and the destitute.
“Rescue the downtrodden;
Deliver them from the hand of the exploiter.”
Those who see themselves as gods know nothing;
They understand nothing of life;
They walk around in dense fog;
All the foundations of the earth are shaken
by their abuse of humanity.
“You take yourselves for gods,
children of the Most High, all of you;
“Yet you shall die, as mortals do,
and fall, like every other ruler.”
Rise up, O God, bring justice to the earth;
For all the nations belong to You!

Save the Date!
On Sunday, November 24, we will have an all-church Celebration to commemorate the Church’s 275th Anniversary. Mark your calendar for an exuberant service and boisterous birthday party! For that day, we are collecting stories of service to our neighbors, near and far. Can you share how you put your faith in action? Please contact Pastor John or the Church office.
Church Office Update
We have implemented a new security measure for the Church House: if any of our staff is in the building alone, then the Library Street door will remain locked.
If you stop by the church during office hours and the door is locked, please press the button to the left of the door to call the office. The staff person will then come down and open the door for you!
